“The United States regards freedom of press as the guarantee of democracy and human rights. Democratic countries use all methods to support freedom of press,†US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Anne Derse told journalists, APA reports.
The Ambassador stressed the importance of removal of libel charge in democratic societies.
“The press assumes great responsibility in democratic societies. The press should work professionally and punctually. We sharply condemn any act of violence against journalists. As the world community, we are deeply concerned about the imprisonment of five journalists in Azerbaijan. We hope civil society institutions, NGOs and government will cooperate for democracy in Azerbaijanâ€. /APA/
