Rovnag Abdullayev: â€œOil extraction reduction in Azerbaijan was related with avoidance of BP from risks on Contract of the Centuryâ€

He refuted as if reduction of extraction was related with decrease of reserves of the fields: â€œThe field is huge and it has reserves. The information about exhaustion of resources and etc. is baseless. More than 50% of wells in the existing platforms in AGC were not exploited yetâ€.

According to him, in 2008, an accident was occurred in BPâ€™s platform in Mexico Gulf, and then natural gas leak - in AGC. Consequently, to investigate the causes of gas leak, work of Central Azeri platform was suspended for some months. As a result of these works, BP could not fulfill the planned oil extraction: â€œBesides, after the accident in the Gulf, BP preferred to avoid from risks instead of managing them. Whereas, existence of risks in the extraction industry is natural. If youâ€™re scared of wolves, donâ€™t go to the woods. If youâ€™re afraid of risks, donâ€™t expect extractionâ€. Therefore, the new program will also reflect risk management.

Touching upon deliberate diminution of extraction by BP, Abdullayev considers it baseless: â€œDeliberate diminution of extraction by BP is not true. We control the process. As I said, the main reasons were related to technical issues and avoidance of BP from risksâ€.
