Ministry of Foreign Affairs comments on arrest of Azerbaijani citizen in US

Baku. Victoria Dementeva – APA. Azerbaijani citizen Sevinj Taghiyeva has been detained for illegal export of microelectronics from the US, Elman Abdullayev, the spokesman for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

He noted that the Azerbaijani embassy in the US intensively works in contact with the law-enforcement bodies of the country. The law-enforcement bodies told the Azerbaijani embassy that Azerbaijani citizen Sevinj Taghiyeva is among the convicted 11 people and she is being kept under arrest in Houston. She accused of violating export procedures: “We are ready to support our citizen in this issue. We are following the processes.”

8 people were detained in Houston on October 2, with the accusation of illegal microchip export from the US. They were accused of spying and exporting high-techs from the US without any relevant license. Totally, 11 people were accused; only 8 of them were detained. Russian mass medias report that one more Azerbaijani citizen Shovkat Abdullayev is also among the detainees.
