Member of British Parliament:â€British Labour supports Azerbaijanâ€

APA reports quoting TEAS that around 100 Labour supporters attended at this yearâ€™s conference.The two speakers were Gerry Sutcliffe MP, member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Azerbaijan and Richard Howitt, MEP, Labour Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs in the EU.

Gerry Sutcliffe MP said that he is delighted to be at the conference as a friend of Azerbaijan:â€Labour supports Azerbaijan, and later this year we will visit the country to meet the trade unions. We need to unite with workers in the country, and give them a message of support. Azerbaijan is of great importance to the UK, not least due to its strategically important location.â€

Richard Howitt MEP stated that they want Europe to engage as much as possible with Azerbaijan: â€œWe are aware of the ongoing Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven surrounding regions, and would like to see movement towards the swift and peaceful resolution of this. Azerbaijanâ€™s oil and gas resources are incredibly important for Europe with regard to the future of energy security. TEAS is making a great contribution towards raising awareness of the countryâ€™s strengths and the challenges that it faces.â€
