Today France does not need a gas from Azerbaijan, we have enough gas, and we feel quite secured. We don’t need any more gas but tomorrow we will need gas. And I think gas coming from Azerbaijan could be a good solution,” Chairman of French Senate Energy Studies Group Ladislas Poniatovski told APA within his visit to Azerbaijan.

He said that the Commission of energy covers the petrol, gas, electricity, nuclear power and new energies issues. The French Delegation held meetings with the President I lham Aliyev, different ministers and representatives of different companies, SOCAR, Sofaz, French company Total and BP and spoke about the issue of exploitation of gas and petrol and about the future projects in gas sphere.

Ladislas Poniatovski said that, today, France does not need any more gas. IT has one third of gas coming from Russia, one third- from Norway and one third –from Algeria:” We don’t need any more gas but tomorrow we will need gas. Gas coming from Norway will stop progressively in about 15-17 years, so we will need gas from elsewhere. And I think gas coming from Azerbaijan could be a good solution. But we will need to find a project that will transport gas from here to Europe until France. It has to be a new project. The project we speaking about is Nabucco project. It can also be a liquid gas transported by boats or it can be both- gas transported by pipeline and a boat. You should never put all eggs in the same bag; you also need to diversify to feel secure”

The head of the delegation added that France will support different countries as well as Azerbaijan to develop alternative energy sources: “In future each country will have a sort of energy mix and every country decides for itself.
