Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs receives Secretary General of Socialist International

Baku â€“ APA. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov received the Secretary General of the Socialist International Luis Ayala, press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA. Ayala said the development in Azerbaijan made a great impression on him and great progress was observed in oil-gas sector particularly.

In his turn, Mammadyarov noted that important steps were made towards the economic development in the republic and improvement of the peopleâ€™s welfare. The minister informed about the process of negotiations towards the solution of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh problem and said Azerbaijan was following the renewed Madrid principles.

Ayala said he is interested in the cooperation between the Socialist International and such important country like Azerbaijan. He said his organization was keeping watch over the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict and emphasized the importance of soonest solution to this conflict. Ayala informed about the meeting of the Socialist Internationalâ€™s regional committee in Yerevan in June, 2010 and took an interest in the opportunities to hold a meeting in Baku. The guest valued this meeting as an intention to support delivering of information about the position of Azerbaijan to the world community.

The issues of mutual interests between the sides were discussed at the meeting.
