Washington. Isabel Levine – APA. US President Barack Obama’s nominations of the Ambassadors to Turkey and Azerbaijan became the target of the Armenian Diaspora in Washington DC. According to APA’s correspondent in Washington DC, Armenian National Committee of America has started a new campaign trying to ensure the US Congress that these tow nominations get the scrutiny they deserve.
“The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is set to consider two ambassadorial nominations that will directly impact Armenia and the future of US-Armenia relationsâ€, - says the statement made by ANCA with regards the nominations.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has announced that it will hold a confirmation hearing in Tuesday, July 20th for President Obama’s nominee, Francis Ricciardone, to serve as the next US Ambassador to Ankara, reported the Armenian National Committee of America.
No date has been announced yet for the Matthew Bryza hearing, while his nomination was sent to the Congress from the White House on May 26th.
American Turkish and Azerbaijani Diasporas explain to the Congress that these nominations are very important both for the countries and for the region. Some analysts from Washington DC are pointing out that the hearing on Ambassador Francis Ricciardone has a very big impact on the Bryza appointment as well.
“We do believe the Armenian Diaspora will not succeed with its provocations against both of themâ€, said Unal Adan, a member of Turkish Diaspora.
Lastw eek ANCA sent a letter to the Congress concerning Ambassador Francis Ricciardone’s nomination saying his nomination is impossible because he didn’t name the 1915 events as genocide.
