German Parliamentary Society hosts discussion â€œThe refugees and IDPs: a crime targeted the peopleâ€

Baku â€“ APA. The German Parliamentary Society hosted a discussion entitled â€œThe refugees and IDPs: a crime targeted the peopleâ€. The discussion was dedicated to the fate and problems of one million Azerbaijanis who turned into refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, the State Committee for Diaspora Activity told APA. The discussion aimed to win support of the German public community to the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs, to educate about their problems and to exchange views on the peaceful solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The participants were informed that Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs are living in the temporary settlements now because Armenians effuse their demand to return home. Generally the European Union can not be indifferent to the facts, which are an example of the violation of human rights. Chairman of the German Parliamentary Society and former secretary of state and former Bundestag member Edward Linthner opened the discussions. Executive Director of the Azerbaijani Coordination Council in Germany Samira Patzer-Ismayilova informed about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs. Head of the German parliamentâ€™s working group on international cooperation and development Holger Haybach mentioned the legal aspect of the problem. Member of the security and defense committee of the German parliament Florian Han spoke about the poor living conditions of the refugees and IDPs and called on the European Union not to be indifferent to their fate. Member of the foreign relations and human rights working group from the Christian Social Union Thoimas Silberhorn said the Europen Union must play an active role in the returning of refugees and internally displaced persons to their homeland and assist the peaceful solution to the conflict.

The discussion caused concern of the Armenian community of Germany, they sent a number of letters to the organizers expressing protest, but they couldnâ€™t prevent the event.
