Manouchehr Mottaki: Iran is ready to offer necessary assistance for the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict

He said all aspects of Iran-Azerbaijan cooperation, transit via North-South corridor had been discussed, new cooperation in economy offered, they had spoken about Astara-Astara railway. It was noted that the volume of the goods transported from Azerbaijan to Persian Gulf and vice versa would be increased.

Touching on the border relations between the two countries Iranian minister underlined the necessity of simplifying the travel.
â€œIran-Azerbaijan relations are all-round and have great importance in the region,â€ he said.
Mottaki said they had also discussed energy cooperation and underlined that Iran would join energy system of CIS through Azerbaijan.

Elmar Mammadyarov said they had discussed political, economic, humanitarian cooperation. According to the Minister, Iran is a stable country of the region and this stability is of great importance for the negotiations on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
â€œThe sooner this conflict is solved, the better it for the region. Iran has a special role in the security of the region,â€ he said.

Touching on the energy cooperation, Elmar Mammadyarov said oil and gas companies of Azerbaijan and Iran were holding talks. The minister said citizens travel to Nakhchivan through Iran and added that it was very important. Speaking of the importance of cultural cooperation, he said Culture Days of Azerbaijan would be held in Tehran and other cities of Iran.

According to Manouchehr Mottaki, the trade turnover between the two countries is $600 million.
â€œWe want to increase this figure by $1 billion. There is a good potential for this,â€ he said.

Asked why the Baku summit of the Caspian states delayed, Elmar Mammadyarov said they want to hold a summit that may produce concrete results.
â€œThe foreign ministries are holding talks so that the summit is effective,â€ he said.
