US Embassy in Azerbaijan comments on Congress’ $8 million aid to Nagorno Karabakh

Answering APA’s question, Chief of the Public Relations Department of the US Embassy in Baku Terry Davidson said Washington didn’t change its official position toward the Nagorno Karabakh: “The United States does not recognize the so-called Republic of Nagorno Karabakh government; that has been our policy, and it has not changed. In the case of funds designated for NK by the US Congress. US assistance is given to people, not the government. This is purely humanitarian assistance, for projects such as demining. They are carried out by NGOs. Of course the United States at the same time provides assistance to the IDP population of Azerbaijan. Again we have supported large demining efforts in recent years, built new schools for IDP population and attempted to improve living conditions in a range of projectsâ€.
