Elnur Aslanov: “Freedom House serves the interests of those who allocate $8 million in aid to Nagorno Karabakh separatistsâ€
The Freedom House in its recent report “Map of Freedom - 2009†indicated Armenia as “Partly Free†and Nagorno Karabakh was designated under some joint rule of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Elnur Aslanov notes that according to the basic principles of the international law, the organization, which fails to determine that Nagorno Karabakh is Azerbaijan’s territory and regards Armenia – the aggressor state, which carried out ethnic cleansing policy in Azerbaijani territories - as “partly freeâ€, is a classical example of double standards.
“They close eyes to the political prisoners, among whom there are 16 participants of the pre-election demonstration, 5 parliamentarians, 1 newspaper editor arrested in Yerevan after the March 1 happenings. How can Nagorno Karabakh be regarded as “partly free†while almost all of its population consists of the servicemen and the elections and other democratic institutions there are not recognized by the international community? Why Freedom House keeps silent while Armenia is forcing one million Azerbaijanis to live as displaced persons? Where was Freedom House when Armenian nationalists and separatists destroyed Azerbaijani cultural heritage in the territory of Karabakh? Why Freedom House disappeared when the captured Azerbaijani women and children suffered from severe tortures? Why Freedom House didn’t take interest in the living conditions of Azerbaijani refugees? Is it possible to believe this organization after all that? Everybody knows that this organization is labeled as working on orderâ€.
Elnur Aslanov said it is clear whose interests are such maps prepared without correct methodology, without fact-finding mission to the region, without learning of real situation and conducting relative analysis serving during the financial crisis. “Today Freedom House serves the interests of those who allocate $8 million in aid to Nagorno Karabakh separatists, those who wishes to see Nagorno Karabakh as a place free for drug trafficking and terrorist camps and laundering of dirty money of Armenian Diaspora and other groupsâ€.
