EU summit approves Eastern Partnership special cooperation program

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. Eastern Partnership special cooperation program was approved at the EU summit in Brussels. EU Commissioner for External Relations and New Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner told journalists that all six members of the program are quite enough ready to sign the associative agreement. “It doesn’t mean that the document will be signed in near future. The Eastern partnership member countries should fulfill the package of political and economic reforms, as well as fundamental changes. This document considers establishing of good environment for cooperation with EU in the different formats”.

EU countries decided to allocate 600 million euro financial assistance to the Eastern Partnership countries. These resources will be spent to the strengthening of government institutions and small enterprises.

Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and Armenia are the members of the Eastern Partnership. This program doesn’t consider prospects of EU membership for those countries. It will provide political and economic rapprochement, easing of visa regime and energy cooperation.
