Nicolas Sarkozy calls on Azerbaijani President to use his influence with respect to Iranian officials

APA reports quoting the Associated Press that Nicolas Sarkozy said this at the dinner hosted in honor of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his official visit to France. The presidents discussed regional issues, negotiations on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. French President welcomed the positive dynamics of the negotiations and mentioned the six meetings held between Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents within a year.

French President underlined the importance of Iranâ€™s obeying completely the international commitments and called on President Aliyev to use his influence with respect to Iranian officials.

Sarkozy expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for the support in Afghanistan within the framework of International Security Assistance Force.

The presidents expressed their desire to strengthen the relations in all spheres in order to form quickly France-Azerbaijan strategic partnership. French President said there was potential to improve the economic relations and noted that France wanted to increase the trade turnover with Azerbaijan, its first trade partner in the Caucasus. He appreciated Azerbaijanâ€™s role in the energy security of Europe and once more underlined Franceâ€™s support for Nabucco pipeline that is of great importance for Europe.
