Council of Europe Committee of Ministers discuss fulfillment of Azerbaijani and Armenian commitments to the Council of Europe

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. Council of Europe Committee of Ministers held 1063rd meeting of the Foreign Ministers’ Deputies on July 8-9. The Ministers’ Deputies held an exchange of views with Frank Belfrage, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, who informed them about the priorities of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. He indicated that the main priorities related to the financial crisis and the employment situation and to protection of the environment. He also listed a number of priorities falling within the scope of the mandate of the Council of Europe, in respect of which he underlined the willingness of the Swedish Presidency to co-operate with the Council of Europe. Particular reference was made to the Eastern Partnership Initiative.
The Deputies listened to a progress report by the Chair of their Monitoring Group (GT-SUIVI.AGO), on progress made by Armenia and Azerbaijan in the fulfillment of their commitments to the Council of Europe. They also examined two reports prepared by the Secretary General, respectively on the human rights situation in the areas affected by the conflict in Georgia and on the Council of Europe activities following the conflict.
