US First Deputy Secretary of State: â€œWe understand that Azerbaijan and other countries of the region should have constructive relations with Russiaâ€

Baku. Victoria Dementyeva â€“ APA. â€œAzerbaijan has an important role as an energy supplier and transit country in the creation of opportunities for diversification of the energy sources. We highly appreciate cooperation with Azerbaijan in this fieldâ€, US First Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg told journalists, APA reports. He said Azerbaijan played important role in the US efforts towards diversification of the energy sources.

Regarding the possibility of US financial support to Nabucco project and impact of the Azerbaijan-Russia gas deal on this project, Steinberg said the diversification policy didnâ€™t exclude cooperation with Russia. â€œWe understand that Azerbaijan and other countries of the region should have constructive relations with Russia. There is no concern over it. Regarding the US participation in Nabucco, Ambassador Morningstar is addressing this issue deeply. I consider that after the signing of agreement in Ankara, the work will be continued toward finding of financial sources and solving of other issuesâ€.
