Syrian President ends his official visit to Azerbaijan

Baku â€“ APA. Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad visited the Azerbaijani Parliament on Thursday and met with Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov, APA reports.

The speaker spoke about the Azerbaijan-Syrian friendly relations and said this visit opened a new page in the history of relations between the two countries.

The parliament speaker underlined the parliamentsâ€™ role in the development of intergovernmental relations and said friendship groups were established in the parliaments of both countries. He noted the importance of intensifying the activity of these groups. Ogtay Asadov gave detailed information about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, the most painful problem of Azerbaijan and said Syria always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and advocated for peaceful solution to the conflict.

Bashar Al-Assad said Syrian-Azerbaijani friendship had deep roots and promised to do best efforts for the development of relations between the two friendly countries.

Syrian leader spoke about the role of the parliaments and emphasized the importance of the extension of activity of the legislative bodies, particularly the friendship groups.

The Syrian president met with Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Arthur Rasizadeh on Friday. Bashar al-Assad mentioned the prospects of the economic cooperation between Syria and Azerbaijan and underlined the importance of bilateral documents signed during the visit for the establishing of business relations between the two countries and development of useful relations.

Prime Minister Rasizadeh informed about the recent economic reforms carried out in the country and expressed confidence that the first official visit of the Syrian president to Azerbaijan will promote the extension of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Syrian president ended his official visit to Azerbaijan. President Al-Assad and his spouse were seen off at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Vice Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov and other government officials.
