Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. “Nothing could be denied or confirmed regarding the appointment of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Matthew Bryza as US ambassador to Azerbaijan”, said Azerbaijani ambassador to US Yashar Aliyev, APA reports. The ambassador said it was an authority of the US President. “The issue of appointment will be publicized after his decision”. He said the United States didn’t submit an agreement to Azerbaijan for the appointment of its new ambassador.
Ambassador Aliyev said bilateral talks over the broadcast of foreign FM radios in Azerbaijan were still going on. “French radio and Russian TV channels’ broadcast was banned in Azerbaijan before these radio stations. The US was respected more than needed regarding this issue. But the bilateral talks are going on that both sides could take advantage from the decision to be made”.
Answering the question “could Jewish lobby in the United States strengthen its support to Azerbaijan after the visit of Israeli President Shimon Peres to Azerbaijan”, Ambassador Aliyev said: “We are edgily waiting for that the Jewish lobby will strengthen its support to Azerbaijan and deliver to the US society that Azerbaijan pursues strong, independent foreign policy”.
Regarding the direct assistance of the US Congress to Nagorno Karabakh, Yashar Aliyev said it is given to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as a humanitarian assistance to the people suffered from the conflict. Quoting the Azerbaijani parliament’s address to the US Congress, the ambassador said if the question was about the conflict victims, the US shouldn’t deny its assistance to the Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons.
