Bakus hosts international conference â€œAzerbaijan in global policy: formation of foreign policyâ€

According to APA Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Hafiz Pashayev presided at the conference said Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was first democratic republic in the East, was established and founded its diplomatic service 90 years ago. The deputy minister said Azerbaijan Democratic Republic had 16 diplomatic missions abroad.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov spoke about the history of Azerbaijani diplomacy. The minister said Azerbaijan entered its independence with the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which was a blow on the development of the newly-independent country. Mammadyarov said main priority of the Azerbaijanâ€™s foreign policy was the solution of this problem.

The minister spoke about the development of Azerbaijan and said the Contract of Century signed in 1994 was a leap in the progress of the country.

Former foreign minister and parliament speaker of Turkey Hikmet Cetin emphasized that Azerbaijan reached great achievements in the short period. Speaking about the history of Azerbaijan, Cetin said Abulfaz Elchibeyâ€™s government made two main mistakes damaging relations with Russia and Iran. He said Heydar Aliyev made great contribution to the integration of Azerbaijan into the Euro-Atlantic space and made important steps towards the improvement of relations with Russia and Iran.
