Baku – APA. “We have stated our position regarding the “Nabucco” project many times. Azerbaijan was not considered as a supplier when this idea occurred. Azerbaijan was considered as one of the transit countries. Main suppliers were considered other countries and they are still considered even today. But as it seems for some reasons certain difficulties have emerged with initial suppliers in reaching agreements and interests in Azerbaijan considerably increased as a huge gas producing country”, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in his interview to Russian State Television channel, APA reports quoting AzerTAC state agency. Noting that Azerbaijan is interested in complete realization of its gas potential, the head of state emphasized that the country had huge gas resources: “Therefore, we support the projects giving us an access to new markets. However, we have already established our gas infrastructure. Thet’s why, there is no need for us to invest in construction of new gas pipelines”.
According to the head of state, if the “Nabucco” gas pipeline is constructed and suitable commercial terms are proposed us, we will consider them. But we will not come forward with an initiative to start this process and finance this project. This is our unambiguous position. And both the West and Turkey and all our partners in other countries are aware of our position.
The president also touched upon the agreement signed between Russia and Azerbaijan and stated that this deal was a bilateral character.
