Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan: â€œWe cannot give order to Azerbaijan and Armeniaâ€

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. â€œOur position is neither pro-Armenian, not pro-Azerbaijani. There are international legal norms, adopted resolutions and nobody denies them. We are trying to achieve a fair solution basing on them,â€ Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin said at the meeting with Azerbaijani experts and political analysts, APA reports. Asked why Russia as a super state and strategic partner of Azerbaijan and Armenia does not assume the solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict the diplomat mentioned that the ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia was the achievement of Russia.
â€œThere is another â€“ international format now. This format is in line with the position of Azerbaijan and Armenia, ass well as the international community. Russia participates in this format, but we cannot give order. Russia can not order sovereign states Azerbaijan and Armenia what to do. A complicated process is going on, we are mediators and can nothing else. Both countries wanted idea from us and we gave it. These were Prague proposals, then Madrid proposals. Negotiations are being held basing on these proposals. After yesterdayâ€™s meeting in St. Petersburg the mediators will be asked to do something, and we will do it in accordance with the common situation in the world and in the region. There is no other opportunity,â€ he said.
