US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton meets with Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers

At first Clinton met with Nalbandian. She told journalists before the meeting that the relationship between the United States and Armenia is a very lasting and durable one. The Secretary of State said the Obama administration was committed to broadening it, deepening it and working with Armenia. Armenian foreign minister said he visited Washington with this aim too. He thanked administration of the United States, Secretary of State, and to the State Department for their efforts to help to support the normalization process with Turkey and peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

After the meeting Nalbandian left the State Department not making announcement for the journalists.

Later on Clinton met with Elmar Mammadyarov and before the meeting the diplomats interviewed with the journalists. Clinton welcomed Mammadyarov and said the United States and Azerbaijan were working together in several important directions. Secretary Clinton said the geographic position of Azerbaijan was important not only for the country, but for the region and the world as well. She said from this point of view Baku was ready to take heavy responsibility and leadership in the number of issues.

Mammadyarov said they were ready to discuss all regional and global issues, including the bilateral relations.

Then Clinton and Mammadyarov held 30-minute meeting behind the closed doors.
