First Vice Prime Minister of Azerbaijan meets with President of Belarus

Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. First Vice Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov met with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, APA reports. Azerbaijan-Belarus cooperation, trade-economic relations and prospects of their development were discussed at the meeting. The Belarusian President emphasized necessity of extension of economic relations between the two countries and said $120-million annual trade turnover didn’t reflect real potential of the countries.

Yagub Eyyubov said Azerbaijan was ready to extend its cooperation with Belarus. “We are not satisfied with current volume of the trade turnover and we have to develop cooperation not only in the existent fields, but new ones too. We need to develop the cooperation relations”.

The trade turnover between the two countries was increased for 6.4 times over the past five years and reached $100 million in 2008. It was $33.5 million in the first three months of 2009, which exceeded last year’s analogical period results by 30 percent. Belarus-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission will hold its fifth meeting in Minsk on Tuesday. First Vice Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov chairs the commission from Azerbaijan.
