Making a keynote speech at the conference, chairman of Azerbaijan State Customs Committee, Vice Chair for the WCO Europe Region Aydin Aliyev said the conference is attended by the representatives of 42 participating and 5 observing countries, a number of international organizations.
He said the conference that will last till January 24 will consist of three sessions – “Urgent issues and exchange of views on customs training”, “Advanced approaches in customs training” and “Outcomes of the conference, the way leading to the future, signing of the final document”.
The theme of the first session was “Customs professionalism and skills”. It focused on the development of national human resources and teaching strategies, improvement of personnel, skills and activity. Exchange of experience was also discussed at the conference.
Aydin Aliyev said it is the first event of this kind.
“After Azerbaijan was elected as Vice Chair for the WCO Europe Region, it put forward interesting proposals. This event is the conference of the European Heads of National Training Centres of the World Customs Organization. WCO Director for Capacity Building Erich Kieck is also attending the conference,” he said.
Aydin Aliyev said there are 6 training centers in the world, one of them is in Baku.
“Personnel training is very important for us, because they are connected with the future of Azerbaijani customs,” he said.
WCO Director for Capacity Building Erich Kieck said WCO brings together 180 countries.
“We have invited representatives of training centers of 52 European countries to attend the three-day conference in Baku. This conference is organized to study advanced experience in terms of the development of human resources. We have come to give our support in the customs sphere and make use of the experience existing here,” he said.
At the end of the conference, the participants of the conference will visit the Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) of the World Customs Organization (WCO) European Region, WCO Regional Training Center.
