In the second quarter of 2025, the value of the shares listed by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) amounted to 13 billion dollars, said SOFAZ in response to APA-Economics' inquiry.
Investments in “NVIDIA” and “Microsoft” sharply increased
It was noted that during this period, global information technology companies again led the TOP-10 companies in which the State Oil Fund invested the most. There have also been changes in the share portfolio of the TOP-10 companies in which SOFAZ has invested the most.
Since the first half of 2023, the share of the largest US chip manufacturer, “NVIDIA,” in the Fund’s portfolio has continued to grow. The chip giant even surpassed “Apple” in the second quarter of this year and rose to the first position. Specifically, SOFAZ’s investments in NVIDIA increased from 444 million dollars in the first quarter to 663 million dollars in the last quarter. This represents a 49% increase in three months. NVIDIA’s weight in the share portfolio also increased from 3.9% to 5.1%.
In parallel, the Fund’s investments in “Microsoft” increased by 37% compared to the first quarter of the year, reaching 604 million dollars, and its share in the stock portfolio rose from 3.9% to 4.7%.
The Fund’s investments in “Apple Inc.” decreased by 26 million dollars compared to the first quarter, falling to 530 million dollars. The share of “Apple Inc” in SOFAZ’s stock portfolio dropped from 4.9% to 4.1%.
Investments in “Amazon” exceeded 360 million dollars
SOFAZ’s investments in “Amazon” have increased again, rising from 300 million dollars in the second quarter to 361 million dollars. Also, the share of “Amazon” in the Fund’s stock portfolio fell from 2.6% to 2.8%.
“Meta” has been in the TOP-5 over the past year
Since the first quarter of 2024, “Meta platforms” has been included in the top five companies with the most investments. SOFAZ’s investments in Mark Zuckerberg’s company increased from 217 million dollars at the end of last year to 278 million dollars, and its weight in the portfolio rose from 1.8% to 2.1%.
Investment in “Broadcom Inc.” increased from 124 million dollars to 212 million dollars. The State Oil Fund also raised its separate investments in two companies related to “Google” from 150 million dollars to 177 million dollars and from 130 million dollars to 152 million dollars in the second quarter compared to the first quarter.
“Tesla” saw a 34 million dollar increase in the portfolio
Investments in “Tesla” have started to rise again. SOFAZ’s shares in “Tesla” increased from 124 million dollars to 158 million dollars, and its share in the stock portfolio rose from 1.1% to 1.2%. In other words, there was a 34 million dollar increase in three months.
In the second quarter, "JPMorgan Chase & Co" replaced “Berkshire Hathaway Inc” in the top ten. The Fund’s investments in the financial giant amounted to 140 million dollars, with a portfolio share of 1.1%.
Investments in the TOP-10 companies increased by 680 million dollars
Note that SOFAZ’s investments in the shares of the top 10 global giants amounted to 3.3 billion dollars as of July 1 this year, which is 26% or 679 million dollars more compared to the first quarter.
Recall that this portfolio consists of the State Oil Fund’s “MSCI World” index-listed stock investments. The Fund’s portfolio following the “MSCI Europe ex UK” index and the volume of cash assets also increased by 300 million dollars in the second quarter, reaching 1.8 billion US dollars.
