Relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are based on centuries-old ties of friendship and brotherhood and are of a strategic partnership nature, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in the city of Turkmenbashi, APA's correspondent dispatched to Turkmenistan reports.
First of all, the head of state expressed his gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the traditional hospitality.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that every visit to Turkmenistan leaves a deep impression:
"It is clearly visible how dynamically the country is developing. The successes of brotherly Turkmenistan sincerely delight us."
The President of Azerbaijan expressed satisfaction with the intensive nature of high-level contacts between the two countries. He recalled that he visited Turkmenistan in August 2025, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Azerbaijan twice last year, and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid a state visit to Azerbaijan in June this year.
"These contacts have given additional impetus to bilateral relations and opened up new opportunities for expanding cooperation in many areas," the head of state noted.
President Ilham Aliyev also noted that the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States is being celebrated this year. According to him, over the past years, the CIS has established itself as an important platform for maintaining political dialogue, developing mutually beneficial cooperation, and strengthening ties among member states.
