Baku-APA. Nearly two dozen children have been injured and taken to the hospital after two school buses were involved in a head-on collision in County Durham, police say, APA reports quoting Press TV.
Around 50 children aged between 11 and 18 and two adults were involved in the Tuesday morning collision, the Durham constabulary said.
The emergency service dispatched 13 ambulances, five fire engines, and one helicopter to the scene of the accident at the junction of Shield Row Lane and the A693.
Eventually 22 students were taken to the hospital with injuries, including a 12-year-old boy with serious head and facial wounds, the official added.
“We can now confirm that all drivers and passengers of both buses have been safely removed from the vehicles and taken to hospital if necessary. Those not requiring medical treatment are now with family members,” said Supt Colin Williamson, of Durham Police.
The single-decker and double-decker vehicles were carrying students from St Bede's Catholic school, in Lanchester, and Tanfield school, in Stanley.
The incident marks the latest in transportation accidents in the United Kingdom.
In November, two people were killed when the twin-engine light airplane they were traveling in experienced a technical problem and crash-landed at Hawarden Airport in Flintshire, North Wales.
