According to a statement by the French Foreign Ministry, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius will “discuss the situation in the east of Ukraine with his counterparts from Ukraine, Russia and Germany” in Paris on June 23.

On the agenda of the meeting is discussing the implementation of a truce deal reached in Minsk in February, Fabius said on Wednesday.

Representatives of Kiev and pro-Russia forces, who met in the Belarusian capital with the mediation of Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), failed to reach a breakthrough on Tuesday.

Although the two warring sides in eastern Ukraine signed a ceasefire agreement in February, the they continue to engage in sporadic clashes.

Eastern Ukraine has been the scene of turmoil, which first erupted in March 2014.

The violence exacerbated in April 2014, after Kiev dispatched troops to the eastern Ukrainian regions of Lugansk and Donetsk to suppress pro-Russians there.

Nearly 6,500 people have lost their lives in the 14-month turmoil, according to UN figures.
