Baku – APA. Protecting its airspace is a basic right of Turkey, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Nov.25 at the session of the Justice and Development Party’s parliamentary fraction.

Turkey through this incident does not intend to aggravate relations with Russia, an ally and neighbor of Turkey, Davutoglu said.

According to the PM, relations between big countries cannot be sacrificed because of communication failures.

The rules of retaliation against threats have been thoroughly explained to Russian authorities several times, he said. “The violated air space is NATO’s at the same time,” the PM noted.

Russia was thoroughly informed about the incident, Davutoglu said, stressing that the two sides should make efforts in order to avoid the escalation of the tension.

Davutoglu said that Bayir Bucak region of Syria, inhabited by the Turkmen, is being subjected to heavy attacks.

“The brutality of the Syrian regime is obvious. There is no Islamic State militant or terrorist in Bayir Bucak region. No one can justify the attacks to Bayir Bucak region under the pretext of the fight against IS. We can’t turn a blind eye to the attacks against civilians of Bayir Bucak region,” he added.
