Baku-APAPolish President Bronislaw Komorowski formally accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday, entrusting him to continue performing his duties until a new council of ministers is appointed, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Tusk resigned as prime minister to head the European Council from Dec. 1.

His resignation results in the resignation of the whole government. As per Polish constitution, the new prime minister will be appointed by the president.

The most probable candidate for the post is Ewa Kopaczm from the ruling coalition and the current Marshall of the Polish Parliament. She is due to meet with the president on Friday.

According to Polish law, the president has two weeks since the acceptation of the government's resignation to appoint a new one.

Because of Komorowski's planned visit to the United States, a new government will most probably be chosen before Sept. 22.

Once appointed, the new prime minister will have two weeks to get a vote of confidence from parliament.
