Baku. Rufat Ahmedzadeh – APA. The number of German citizens, who traveled to Syria and Iraq to join IS, has been made public, APA reports quoting Deutsche Welle.
Germany's domestic intelligence chief, Hans-Georg Maassen said that more than 450 jihadists from Germany are already believed to have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join IS.
At least 120 jihadists have already returned to Germany, according to Maasen, 25 of whom were "demonstrably involved in combat operations."
The more the West becomes involved in Syria and Iraq, the more the danger grows that returnees will come back with attack plans, Maassen believes. The number of Europeans joining Islamist fighters in Syria and Iraq has jumped by a third to around 3,000 in a few months.
