On Tuesday, the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he had called the meeting, set for Wednesday, upon the request of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.
He added that the aim of the meetings was to stop “military confrontations from intensifying anymore and avoid further political escalation between Kiev and Moscow.”
"We're faced with a threatening situation again due to new fighting flaring up in eastern Ukraine in recent days," said Steinmeier.
