German politician says border guards should shoot refugees trying to enter country illegally

Baku. Turbat Baghirova – APA. A top German politican says police should gun down migrants who try to enter the country illegally.

Frauke Petry, the leader of the right wing Alternative for Germany said Germany should not be shy about turning people back and creating "border protection installations" - and that border guards should, if necessary, shoot at migrants trying to enter illegally, Daily Mirror reported.

No police officer wanted to shoot at a migrant, Petry said, adding "I don't want that either but, ultimately, deterrence includes the use of armed force".

Petry’s remarks were met with objection from local politicians as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies. The German police union, however, said refugees will not be shot.

Note that, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said most migrants from Syria and Iraq will go home once the wars in their countries have ended.
