Baku. Turbat Baghirova – APA. No discussion is being held on Corsica’s independence, Prime Minister of France Manuel Valls said in an interview to Le Parisien newspaper.
“Some talks about the existence of Corsican people. I don’t know what people they are. There is only one nation - French in our country”, said the PM.
The issue of the ownership of Corsica to France is not currently under discussion and will not be discussed in the future, said the PM.
According to Valls, the French state recognizes the special status of the island in regard to its location apart from continent and having its own history and language.
Last week, situation became aggravated in the island after anti-Muslim protests. Demonstrators ransacked a Muslim prayer hall and tried to set fire to copies of the Koran on the French island of Corsica. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls described the attack as ‘an unacceptable desecration’.
