An exhibition titled "Religions in Georgia" has opened in Tbilisi on the initiative of the Georgian State Agency for Religious Issues.
The exhibition, organized by the National Museum of Georgia, displays various religious books, attributes, historical photographs and documents, an APA correspondent reported from Tbilisi.
Zaza Vashakmadze, chairwoman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, said at the opening ceremony that the purpose of the exhibition is to raise awareness about religious organizations and strengthen tolerance and mutual understanding.
Georgia’s Culture and Sports Minister Mikheil Giorgadze praised the initiative to hold the exhibition. According to the minister, the exhibition will contribute to the promotion of tolerance in the country.
Quran books presented by the Georgian Muslims Department in Georgian and Azerbaijani languages, religious garments and other attributes are on display at the exhibition. The chairman of the Georgian Muslims Department, Ramin Igidov, highly appreciated the organization of the exhibition.
“Some items presented by our department have not been exhibited. We hope that more exhibits will be displayed in the corner of Islam religion at further exhibitions to be held on this topic,” the chairman said.
Government and parliament members, representatives of diplomatic corps and various religious confessions and sects are attending the event.
