Baku-APA. The European Union (EU) on Tuesday called on member states to intensify efforts to increase development aids, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
According to Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) figures, the EU collective official development assistance (ODA) increased from 55.3 billion euros in 2012 to 56.5 billion euros (77.8 billion U.S. dollars) in 2013, after two consecutive years of decline.
The EU's collective ODA remained at 0.43 percent of EU gross national income (GNI), the same level as the year before.
In 2005, EU member states pledged to increase ODA to 0.7 percent of GNI by 2015, in support of achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
The EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs said, "The EU still has a long way to go to meet our collective commitment, but measures taken by some member states show that we can deliver on our promises, even in difficult budgetary circumstances."
