Baku-APA. The European Union (EU) on Monday called on the international community to increase funding for people affected by the Central African Republic (CAR) crisis, within the nation and in the neighboring countries, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
A conclusion adopted by the EU Foreign Affairs Council said that the condition of the local population remained precarious, particularly in the interior of the country where humanitarian access remained difficult.
It said that the EU was particularly concerned about security threats to the civil population and about the consequences, in particular humanitarian, of mass forced departures of Central Africans and migrants, in particular Muslims, mainly towards Chad, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo.
According to the conclusion, the EU encouraged the Central African transitional authorities to continue the political transition process and carry on with the preparation of elections.
It urged authorities to focus their efforts on combating impunity and reiterated that perpetrators of violations must answer for their crimes in court.
The EU is a main international donor to the CAR transitional process. The European Commission earlier announced its intention to provide the CAR with aid exceeding 100 million euro (139 million U.S. dollars), in particular for the restoration of the state and the reestablishment of social services and preparation of elections.
