Baku-APAVoting in the European Parliament (EP) elections ended Saturday afternoon in the Czech Republic with a record low turnout, election commissioners said after the two-day event, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The overall turnout was an estimated less than 20 percent, lower than last EP elections held in the country in 2009 28.3 percent.

Pre-election surveys showed that parties in parliament had the biggest chances of success in the ballot. They forecast the ANO movement of Finance Minister Andrej Babis would be the biggest winner of the vote, followed by the government Social Democrats (CSSD), the opposition Communists (KSCM), TOP 09 and the Civic Democrats (ODS).

The EP elections kicked off on Thursday in Britain and the Netherlands, the first batch of countries to go to the polls. The remaining 26 member states are voting through the weekend up to Sunday night, with the majority of states voting on Sunday.

Some 400 million Europeans have the right to vote, but analysts predicted abstention rates in some countries could be as high as 65 percent.

The Czech Republic is the only EU country to have the EP polls on two days, Friday and Saturday, which allowed Czechs to choose 21 out of 751 MEPs.

Official results from the countries that voted before Sunday will not be made public until polling booths in all member countries have closed. The final figures and overall results of the polls will be released on Sunday night.

The Czech State Electoral Commission will on Monday discuss the polling results, and make it officially published in the Digest of Laws on Tuesday.
