Baku – APA. Bulgaria is keen to become a main natural gas transit country for Southeast and Central Europe due to the project for the Balkan gas hub, which is to be built not far from coastal Varna, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said in an interview to Deutsche Welle.

It is planned that gas will be carried to the hub from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan as well as from Romanian and Bulgarian natural gas fields.

According to Boyko Borisov, the Bulgarian government and the European Commission (EC) are working jointly on the project and its financing.

According to the Bulgarian authorities, the construction of the gas hub will aid the partial diversification of gas deliveries to EU member states.

Gas will be transmitted from the gas hub to be built near Varna to Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia, while another 43 billion m3 will be carried to Central Europe.
