An Azerbaijani schoolboy of the secondary school No. 8 in Georgia’s Marneuli district has died of meningococcemia in the Iashvili Children's Central Hospital, APA’s Georgia bureau reports.
The Public Health Center of Marneuli said that 7-year-old Yusif Talibov was first placed in a local hospital.
“Then he was transferred to the Iashvili Children's Central Hospital and died there on January 18,” said the center, noting that a fatal outcome of meningococcemia was recorded for the first time this year.
There is no epidemic threat in Marneuli district, added the center.
Earlier, secondary school â„– 8 in Marneuli was disinfected and the local population was informed that the situation was not dangerous.
Paata Imnadze, deputy director of Georgia's National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said that the death from meningococcemia was registered this year for the first time.
“Meningococcemia is a very serious illness, and unfortunately it leads to death. Last year nearly 10 death cases from meningococcemia were recorded. This is a very rare disease. Unlike meningitis, if the cause of the disease is meningococcemia, this leads to severe consequences,” he added.
