The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on Russian military intelligence following an investigation into the "Novichok" case, APA reports.
This was stated in the official announcement of the UK government.
The sanctions are based on the final report of the investigation into the attempted murder of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in March 2018 in the city of Salisbury, which resulted in the death of British citizen Dawn Sturgess. According to the conclusions of the investigation, the operation was approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The final 174-page report, presented by the chairman of the investigative commission, Lord Hughes, confirms this.
It is noted that the sanctions cover 11 individuals, including those working within Russia’s military intelligence who “were behind hostile activities supported by the Russian state.”
As a result, Russia’s military intelligence will now be fully subject to UK sanctions.
