Seven organizers of riots in Tbilisi were detained in Georgia

"Georgian law enforcement officers on Wednesday detained seven people for organizing and participating in group violent actions during rallies in Tbilisi and other regions of the country," it is stated in a statement by the director of the Central Department of Criminal Police Teymuraz Kupatadze, published on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic, APA reports citing RIA Novosti.

"Law enforcement officers began investigative actions in Tbilisi and various regions of the country on the morning of December 4. As a result of operational measures and investigative actions, the police detained seven people for organizing and directing group violence, participating in group violence," the report says.

As a result of the personal search of the detainees, helmets, respirators, a large number of pyrotechnic devices, electronic transmitting devices, computer equipment, and Molotov cocktails were seized.

Kupatadze clarified that two of the detainees were previously convicted persons. All the defendants face up to nine years in prison.

Law enforcement officers also conducted searches in the homes of six people. In addition, on the basis of the court's decision, investigative actions are being carried out in the offices of opposition political structures – the Jiuti movement, the Droa and Girchi political parties, as well as in the youth office of the United National Movement party. 

The head of the department also added that more than 150 police officers were injured as a result of violent actions.
