OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu has called on European countries to reduce escalation in the Ukraine war and to choose the path of dialogue, APA reports.
He stated this in an article published in “Der Standard”.
“If the war is stopped, two issues will be inevitable. First, any agreement must be sustainable, and therefore reliable monitoring must be organized. The OSCE is ready to do this. If we are requested, we can quickly send our experts there to assist in creating demilitarized zones, verifying the withdrawal of heavy weapons, establishing contacts between military officials, and other matters,” Sinirlioğlu noted.
According to him, the second inevitable issue is Europe’s obligation to rebuild what has been lost: “Our security architecture is no longer flawless. It must be replaced with something sustainable — something that prevents us from being pushed into endless arms races and conflicts. And this requires dialogue, not illusions.”
The OSCE Secretary General warned that Europe will pay a heavy price if it lacks the courage to start dialogue: “If Europe does not begin dialogue, it will pay a heavy price through instability, divisions, and threats. The OSCE offers a different path: reducing escalation through dialogue, and finding a way out of deadlock through cooperation. This path creates security for everyone.”
