Baku-APAThe number of migrants from other EU-countries currently living in the Netherlands has increased from 447,000 to 600,000 in the last five years, the country's Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS) announced Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Among them, some 139,000 came from new European Union (EU) members, including Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, while migrants from southern European countries also increased from 60,000 in 2007 to 73,000 in 2012.

A large majority of migrants are in paid employment or supported by their partner, according to the bureau, adding that in 2011, some 11,000 claimed welfare benefits and around 9,000 received unemployment benefits.

The Netherlands can expect a further increase from the southern EU countries due to the current economic crisis, according to Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Lodewijk Asscher.
