“We can safely assume that military aid for Ukraine this year will exceed last year's $50 billion,” said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in a statement to the press, APA reports.
Rutte emphasized that continued support for Ukraine is essential even after a potential ceasefire, to ensure deterrence against Russia.
Speaking about the recently adopted declaration, the NATO leader noted that under the 5% military spending plan, 3.5% will be allocated to core military sectors, while the remaining 1.5% will be directed to secondary military areas.
Commenting on the effectiveness of Article 5 of the NATO Charter, Rutte affirmed that it remains in force, but said he would not disclose under what circumstances it would be applied. “We don’t want our adversaries to outsmart us,” he added.
