Three citizens of Kazakhstan have been detained in Georgia on charges of group violations of customs regulations, APA’s local bureau reports, citing the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
The investigation determined that the executives of “Batumi Oil Terminal” LLC violated customs procedures by filling the terminal’s reservoir with over 10,000 tons of undeclared crude oil valued at more than 15 million lari (5.5 million USD) and secretly unloading it.
The accused placed unusable oil waste in the terminal’s reservoir to conceal the disappearance of large quantities of high-quality oil products.
Intensive investigative measures continue in the case to identify other members of the criminal group, calculate the damage to the state budget, and determine facts related to the subsequent sale of smuggled oil.
The committed crime carries a prison sentence of 11 to 15 years.
Note that since 2017, “Batumi Oil Terminal” LLC has belonged to Kazakhstan’s “KazTransOil” Joint Stock Company.
