An indictment has been prepared against former Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Necati Özkan, Hüseyin Gün, and Merdan Yanardağ in connection with the "espionage case", APA reports, citing Anadolu.
The indictment was prepared as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office.
A criminal case has been opened against Ekrem Imamoglu on charges of “political espionage.”
Note that in October last year, an investigation was launched against Ekrem İmamoğlu, İmamoğlu's election campaign manager Necati Özkan and journalist Merdan Yanardağ on charges of espionage.
Recall that Ekrem Imamoglu was detained in March last year as part of an inquiry launched at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. A search was carried out at Imamoglu’s home, after which he was taken for a medical examination. In total, more than 100 people were detained in connection with this case.
Ekrem Imamoglu was elected Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 2019 as the candidate of the Republican People’s Party (CHP).
