"Hungary is ready to expand its strategic cooperation with the Turkic States in all areas—economics, energy, education, and others. We have already benefited greatly from this partnership and see its significant future potential," said Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó at the meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Budapest, APA reports.
He praised the historic event of holding the summit in Europe and in an observer country for the first time and emphasized the growing global relevance of Central Asia and Eurasia during the crisis period.
"Fifteen years ago, when Hungary first approached Azerbaijan we were ridiculed in the West. Today, those critics are now lining up to take pictures with your leaders," he said.
Szijjártó emphasized the importance of strategic foresight, highlighted that Hungary's initial cooperation with Turkic states has been vital for energy security and economic growth.
He also noted that after Hungary became an observer in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) trade turnover with member countries has doubled, reaching $5 billion.
