"The BBC, which was once a highly reputable television channel, is now spreading nonsense," said Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Prime Minister, in a statement to journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.

He noted that Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs will provide detailed information regarding the lies broadcast by the channel.

“Unfortunately, completely false information has been disseminated by the BBC. The BBC cannot rely on the same standards as fake television channels in Georgia,” Kobakhidze added.

Note that the BBC report claimed that toxic chemical agents, dating back to World War I, were used to disperse last year’s protests in Tbilisi. The ruling “Georgian Dream” party has filed an international lawsuit against the channel for defamation, and Georgia’s State Security Service has launched an investigation into the allegations presented in the report.
