Europe should provide Ukraine with security guarantees — US Treasury Department

Ukraine should understand that the United States does not intend to provide it with security guarantees, Kiev needs to conduct negotiations of this kind with Europe, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, APA reports citing CNBC.

"I think he has to acknowledge that the security guarantee is coming from the Europeans," he said during a CNBC TV broadcast, referring to Vladimir Zelensky.

"I think he has this recursive loop, these two words: ’Security guarantee, security guarantee’," Bessent pointed out.

"And this security guarantee is twofold. One, as the US has more of an economic stake in Ukraine, in the success of the future of Ukraine, because I tell you, this deal (on rare earths - TASS) - there is nothing for the US if the Ukrainian economy doesn’t succeed. So there is an implicit economic security guarantee," he emphasized.
