The EU Council will hold a hearing on May 27 on the issue of depriving Hungary of its voting rights in the Community in accordance with Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, according to the agenda published on the union's website, APA reports.
“Ministers will hold the eighth hearing on Hungary under the Article 7 procedure initiated by the European Parliament“, the program says. Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union provides for the possibility of suspending certain rights of Community countries, including the right to vote of the country's representative in the Council of the EU, in connection with actions that contradict common values.
Earlier, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that many EU officials had discussed the issue of depriving Hungary of its voting rights due to the possibility of Budapest blocking key community decisions, mainly those related to Russia.
